Gorman Rupp: Clearance AdjustmentJosh Price
Gorman Rupp: Clearance Adjustment for the Super T-Series pumps is provided by an external shimless cover plate which allows for easy adjustment of the clearance between the impeller and the wear plate. This process eliminates the need to realign belts, couplings, or other drive components. In turn, the working height of the seal assembly and impeller back clearance are not disturbed. The unique collar and adjusting screw allow for incremental adjustments of the wear plate clearance with the turn of a hand. Once adjustments have been made, the collar locks in place maintaining the clearance setting even if the cover plate is removed. This design doubles the life of the impeller and wear plate, keeps the pump operating at maximum efficiency, and helps reduce clogging.
Are you noticing reduced flow or head with your Gorman Rupp Super T-Series pump? It might be time to adjust the clearance. Adjusting the clearance between the impeller and wear plate is an important preventative maintenance task, and it is Super Easy! Follow the link below to see our Service Bulletin which covers clearance adjustment on the Super T-Series Pump.
The best way to tell if the pump clearances need to be adjusted is to do a shut-off head test. The shut-off head is the maximum pressure an operating pump will produce when the discharge valve is closed and the flow from the pump is zero. The shut-off head test is an easy test used to check the internal condition of a centrifugal pump. Slowly close the discharge isolation valve while the pump is operating. Compare the discharge gauge readings to the shut-off head when the pump was new. If the shut-off head is less than 5% of the original shut-off head, the clearances in the pump should be adjusted.
