Saveco Wastewater Influent Screen at Dover Township
The Dover Township Sewer Authority (DTSA) Wastewater Treatment Plant in Dover, PA, is an 8.0 MGD plant that processes sewage from Dover Township and surrounding municipalities. In addition to the new Saveco wastewater influent screen, the treatment process includes influent pumping, grit removal, biological nutrient removal (BNR), final clarifiers, and ultraviolet disinfection. The plant provides biological treatment and nitrogen removal through aeration and denitrification.
In 2020, as part of a plant upgrade, DTSA replaced an influent grinder with a SAVÉCO (formerly Enviro-Care) Wastewater Influent Screen to remove debris from the incoming wastewater and prevent damage and clogging of downstream processes. The screenings are discharged to an FSM Washer Compactor to wash, dewater, and compress the screenings.
The screening equipment was started up in October 2020, and the operations staff was trained on the operation and maintenance of the equipment.
High Capture Rate Screen
The Saveco FSM Filter Screen is a fine screen with a very high capture rate, ideal for wastewater treatment plants seeking an influent screen that can do the job right. The screen is a fully automatic, self-cleaning screen constructed with 304 or 316 stainless steel. Perforations from 3 mm to 12 mm provide the right solids removal and protection of downstream equipment. The screenings capture for an FSM screen with 6 mm holes is double that of a 6 mm bar screen.
The SAVÉCO FSM Washer Compactor is a screw auger press used to reduce the weight and volume of your screenings by washing the screenings and returning the organic material back to the plant flow. It washes out more than 95% of the fecal matter. Then it dewaters, compacts, and transports screenings to produce a clean, dry product. The Washer Compactor handles debris ranging from rags and wipes to bricks, rocks, and 2x4s.
Features and Benefits
- Extremely high capture rate
- Self-adjusting brush ensures effective cleaning with low brush wear
- All 302 or 316 stainless steel construction
- Handles large quantities of grease in the flow
- Minimal water use for cleaning
- Low maintenance requirements
Saveco offers a variety of mechanical bar screens with a wide range of sizes, configurations, and screen openings.
Adding a screen at a wastewater treatment plant can offer several benefits, including:
- Improved Treatment Efficiency: Screens remove debris, such as plastics, rags, and other solids, from wastewater before it enters the treatment process. This improves the efficiency of the treatment process by preventing clogs, reducing wear and tear on equipment, and reducing maintenance needs.
- Reduced Maintenance Costs: Removing debris from the wastewater stream reduces maintenance costs by preventing damage to equipment, reducing the frequency of repairs, and increasing the lifespan of the equipment.
- Improved Water Quality: Screens remove debris and solids that contribute to poor water quality, including odors, turbidity, and contaminants.
- Compliance with Regulations: Adding a screen to a wastewater treatment plant helps to ensure compliance with regulations. This can help to prevent fines and penalties and protect the environment.
- Increased Safety: Removing debris from the wastewater stream reduces the risk of accidents and injuries.
