Gorman-Rupp’s Eradicator Plus™ Prevents Pump Clogging
Unclogging wastewater pumps is a “dirty job” and probably the job operators hate the most. The time and costs involved in continually unclogging a clogged pump can be very frustrating for operators. Plus, pump clogging can be even more expensive when it causes overflows or affects critical processes within the treatment plant.
What has made the problem worse is the proliferation of wipes being flushed into the sewer system.

Pumping wastewater and sludge from wastewater treatment plants is a difficult task. The presence of foreign materials such as rags, wet wipes, feminine products, and other debris is a difficult challenge for any pump.
Using the right pump in the right application is the key to reducing clogging issues. There are many different styles of pumps and impellers for pumping wastewater. Solids handling pumps must be designed to handle debris in the waste stream.
Selecting a pump that will not clog or at least clog infrequently involves many factors such as:
- Liquid being pumped and the quantity and type of solids
- Pump size
- Velocity of the fluid through the pump
- Solids passing capability of the pump
- Impeller type
- Impeller speed
- Cutters and grinders within the pump
Besides the pumps, other items can be installed upstream of the pumps to reduce clogging including basket strainers, mechanical bar screens, grinders, and macerators.
Gorman-Rupp’s Super T-Series® Pumps equipped with the new Eradicator Plus™ is a will go a long way to alleviate clogging issues.
Gorman-Rupp’s Eradicator Plus™ solids reduction technology for 3”, 4”, and 6” Super T-Series® self-priming centrifugal sewage pumps are designed for the most extreme-duty applications for pumping municipal wastewater.
